This blog consists of a classroom guided introduction to library programming and services. I chose the Dekalb County Public Library because it is in the second healthiest county in Georgia, which happens to be in an area that use to live in. I have always been intrigued by the differences and similarities that this system offers compared to the one I currently work for.
Dekalb County Public Library System is the fourth largest county located in the city of Decatur, which is in the north central part of the state of Georgia.
Their mission states that the DeKalb County Public Library is a place to grow. The library enlightens and enriches the people of DeKalb County by providing responsive, dynamic services that meet the changing informational needs of a diverse population. Through a trained, service-oriented staff, partnerships, and ready access to both print and electronic resources, the library is committed to superior service that promotes a strong, literate DeKalb community and enhances the quality of life.

Social Media Presence:
How important is it for a library system to stay connected in to the public? Most community members still consider the library as one of the hubs of the community, which keeps them inform of ongoing and upcoming events. This rational makes it is very important for a library to have a social presence in the community. Library blogs can offer an array of information to the public. Blogs can allow for more detailed and descriptive informational announcements, reviews or post. Offering different social media options will give the library the opportunity to reach different age demographics in the community. Younger people may be more draws to the quick fix sites or apps like Twitter and Instagram, while older individuals may enjoy blogs and familiar websites. The Dekalb County Public Library does not offer a blog for the patrons it serves. However, this system uses other platforms to communicate with the public.
